The event now in its sixth year and scheduled for October 4th at Kampala Serena Hotel will feature four headliners and two bands.
Keith Sweat the celebrated R&B singer, music producer and songwriter is set to headline, alongside John Blackwell, currently one of the world’s top most drummers, trumpeter Michael ‘Patches’ Stewart, and Saxophonist Tom Braxton.
Keith Sweat who has five straight number one albums to his name and has sold more than 25 Million records will perform with his seven piece band. John Blackwell will also be accompanied by his band ‘The John Blackwell Project’.
This was revealed today at the launch of the Nile Gold Jazz Safari 2013 at The Brand House in Bugolobi.
“The Nile Gold Jazz Safari has not only delivered a great Jazz experience every year, but has also contributed to the growth of Jazz in Uganda. We are proud to have supported a platform that has resulted in more creativity and diversity in Uganda’s music and culture scene with the growth of more Jazz talent and fans in the country. This year’s array of new headliners is a reflection of our commitment to granting our fans a musical experience that is beyond the ordinary,” Nile Gold Brand Manager Dorothy Muttu said .
Started in 2008 the Nile Gold Jazz Safari has grown to become Uganda’s premium Jazz event attracting legendary Jazz artistes like Jonathan Butler, Gerald Albright, Howard Hewett, and Regina Belle among others. The increasing growth of the Jazz fans has since resulted in two straight sold out concerts in 2011 and 2012.

John Blackwell Jr, a charismatic drummer, is the man behind the funky drum sounds of music Superstar Prince, and his unique use of drumsticks is a sight to behold. Blackwell has also worked with Pattie La Belle, and has also played drums and toured with Cameo, Justin Timberlake, P Diddy and Charlie Singleton.
Michael “Patches” Stewart, who hails from New Orleans the home of Jazz, is a renowned trumpeter who started his career as a child and has grown to be admired for his skill. He was worked with Brothers Johnson, Quincy Jones, Al Jareau and has worked with Grammy award winning producer, composer and bass legend Marcus Miller.
Tom Braxton, a multi- talented artiste is a composer, an instrumentalist and performer who has Seven albums to his name including Endless Highway” (2009),”Imagine this”(2007), “Bounce”(2005) among others. Braxton played and toured with Wayman Tisdale for 12 Years!
