“We have been meeting our lawyers over the ongoing cases of illegal assembly against us,” says Besigye.

“It seems Police are idle. We are still in consultations without lawyer so we shall leave Kampala at our will,” added Besigye.

12:00pm: Police are dispersing opposition supporters along Luwum Street as security forces search for Dr Kizza Besigye and Mayor Erias Lukwago in downtown Kampala.

The two opposition ironmen were Wednesday morning expected to visit survivors of the Namungoona fire accident who are currently admitted at Mulago Referral Hospital.

However, their cars were later intercepted along Luwum Street with only drivers inside.

Police fears the duo could have stormed the explosive Kisekka market area to address public rallies which police have in recent weeks blocked.

The move is likely to stoke tensions in the city and set the stage for fresh clashes between opposition activists and security forces.
