Ugandan Drivers Buoyant Ahead Of Kenya Safari Rally

The event that will take place between Nairobi and Kajiado will act as the fifth round of the FIA African Rally Championship and it will also count towards the fifth round of the 2013 Kenya National Rally Championship.

KCB increased its sponsorship towards rallying from 36 Million in the year 2012 to 39.6 Million in the KNRC 2013 calendar and so far three legs of the series remain and by press time about 76 drivers including Ugandan Jas Mangat(compete using a Kenyan licence) had confirmed participation in the 2 day event.

Fred Wampamba fresh from a victory in the Mukwano Festino City Sprint finished second in last year’s 2WD category of the Safari Rally and will be joined by a buoyant Otega whose sight is on winning the same category.

“I think I can win the 2WD class title,” Otega, sponsored by Jomayi, vowed.

The three-man team was flagged off at National Council of Sports, Lugogo on Tuesday and cautioned by the motorsport governing body FMU president, George Kagimu.
