Somalia Celebrates Independence Day

After Independence, Somalia moved on to support the cause of independence for many of the African countries while championing African unity through the formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU).


This year’s celebration coincides with the great strides made in the political and security sectors in Somalia after more than two decades of instability.


“The Somali people have demonstrated their unwavering resolve to take charge of their country’s destiny and they are working hard to see their ideal state take shape,” said the envoy.


“Despite all the challenges facing the country, recent developments are encouraging and show that the gains are irreversible,” said Ambassador Annadif while promising AMISOM’s unwavering commitment to Somalia.
