“This was a preventive arrest to block him from reaching Kampala. You know politicians usually take advantage of such situations to cause chaos,” he added.
Besigye’s residence has in recent days been under police siege. He was also arrested last week as he moved to address a public rally in the volatile Kisekka market.
FDC publicity committee member, Francis Mwijukye, condemned the manner in which Besigye was arrested.
“Dr Besigye has been inhumanely grabbed, thrown into the police Van UP 1928 and taken to some unknown location,” charged Mwijukye.
He further noted that “Tomorrow is the day when 4GC/A4C National protests begin. There are four principles you need to apply; Start where you are;-Use what you have;-Do all you can; -Sustain the endeavor.”
The statement compelled Police boss Gen Kale Kayihura to issue a statement warning individuals planning to wreak havoc in Kampala.
“We are, also, aware, of evil plans by certain individuals, and groups to cause chaos in the City and the country, opportunistically, taking advantage of situations such as the current one (KACITA/Ministry of Trade standoff),” warned Kayihura.
“We caution the youth who are being mobilized, and deceived to engage in violent and unlawful activities in the City and surrounding areas. You should refuse to be used by individuals/groups who have dangerous agendas against our country. It is not in your interest. In any case, you will be held individual liable for any breaches of the law that you engage in,” he added.
