In downtown, Chimp Corp Michael Nteza says anti-riot police are battling the youth in deadly running battles as teargas canisters fly over the market.

Majority of traders chose to close their shops for the second day at Kampala City Council Authority implements the shs120, 000 monthly fees on taxis operating in the city.

The traders claim the charge is unaffordable. They insist on shs70, 000, which KCCA has rejected.

Tensions have been rising in downtown after Police arrested and detained Lukwago at the Central Police Station as he led crowds in a march to the Old Taxi Park.

Lukwago, who has in the past opposed the shs120, 000 taxi fees, intended to address a rally at the Park where he would also “consult on KCCA operations.”

Police authorities say the Mayor’s rallies have since disrupted business and traffic in the city.
