He therefore called upon people to donate blood at least 2 times a year.

“Donating blood is better than giving out money in form of help because blood is life,’’ stressed Kalan. He therefore vowed to help fight the shortage of blood in the country through blood donations.

In an interview with Chimp Reports, Joyce Helga Nassuuna a blood donor recruiter at Nakasero blood bank noted that the shortages of blood the country is facing now was due to the closure of schools for the holidays yet the schools were one of the biggest donors of blood.

Nassuuna further stressed that the demand for blood in the hospitals is more than the supply because many people require blood yet blood lasts for only 34 days before it expires. She therefore appealed to the public to donate blood because it’s a social responsibility of every one to donate blood.

“I would like to thank crane bank for their support in this campaign to help save the lives of Ugandans,’’ noted the blood donor recruiter.

This came in a time when the ministry of health had accepted the shortage of safe blood in the 4 regional referral hospitals in the country which include Mbarara, Mbale, Masaka and Gulu referral hospitals.
