Another cop who absconded from duty on the fateful night has also been held.

Police faulted the detained officers for not putting in place adequate patrols in the area and falling short of apprehending suspects after the incident.

Chimpreports on Wednesday reported that security services were investigating circumstances under which armed robbers hijacked the bus before undressing and robbing passengers’ property.

The thugs were armed with AK 47 assault rifles

Nabakooba said Police is yet to hold suspects.

“But we shall find them. They face charges of murder and armed robbery,” said Nabakooba on Friday.

Central Region Police Spokesperson Phillip Mukasa says unidentified armed men ordered the bus registration number, UAN 981J, to stop at Kayabwe trading centre along Masaka-Kampala highway.

The bus driver was instructed to drive towards Kituutu swamp, off the highway, where all passengers were told to undress and surrender all their possessions.

One of the Rwandan businessmen who tried to resist was shot in the stomach. He died on spot.

The incident sent shockwaves in the security community considering it was the latest armed robbery involving a bus in several years.

The thugs loaded their loot on a heavy truck before speeding off.
