Chinese To Start Fruit Processing Industry In Soroti

Mike Mukula, was led by the Vice President and Senior Engineer of the Beijing Industrial Designing and Researching Institute who is also a senior member of the ruling Chinese Communist Party, Mr. Liu Zhenwei and the Deputy Director of the Institute, Mr. Hongwei Wang.

The meeting took place on Saturday at Imperial Resort Hotel in Entebbe Municipality.

Mr. Liu informed President Museveni that they are willing to establish, in one year, a fruit processing plant in Soroti district that would be capable of processing 240 tons of mangoes and oranges daily.

He added that the plant will have capacity to supply national, regional and international markets.

President Museveni welcomed the investors to Uganda and told them that the country needs such factories as farmers are ready to grow more fruits adding that with the use of fertilizers, the yield would be more than double.

He said Uganda now has access to the Chinese, American and European Union markets quota and tariff free.

Museveni also assured them of the availability of the national and regional markets for their venture.
