“796 victims slaughtered by the state agents were buried at Wakyato and therefore the president will lay a wreath at this site,’’ noted Tumwebaze.

He, therefore, noted that the heroes whose values are to be celebrated are those of the colonial days and the post independence days, saying the former will be remembered for their struggle against imperialism which yielded into independence and the latter for their fight against political and socio- economic ills that Uganda faced during the first two and half decades of independence.

Tumwebaze further indicated that celebrating the Heroes’ Day was also in “the context of the vision 2040 that has been launched and therefore makes very encouraging prospects for Uganda.”

“Let each Ugandan get committed to protecting and consolidating the values laid down by our heroes and the achievements registered so that we bravely face the new challenges ahead,’’ appealed the minister.
