AACC publicist, Douglas Tilton, told Chimpreports on Wednesday that the celebrations will run under the theme “God Of Life, Lead Africa to Peace Justice and Dignity” with more than 800 participants including church delegates observers, ecumenical partners, youth stewards and many others from 41 African countries.

According to Douglas, the AACC is also sponsoring two related events in conjunction with the Assembly

“An International Theological Institute has brought together one hundred young theologians, mostly from Africa, to build networks and further theological inquiry. The Institute commenced on May 26 at St. Mary’s National Catholic Seminary in Ggaba and runs through June 8. There will also be a special preassembly for women and youth at the Speke Resort on Monday, June 3,” he said

Meanwhile local churches raised sh 12 million in support for Saturday Jubilee Assembly according to Rtd Bishop of the Church of Uganda, Yonah Katoneene, who is also chair of the local planning committee of the assembly.

“For transparency and accountability, a local currency account named ‘Jubilee Assembly account’ had been opened with a local Ugandan bank. Such an account is useful for receiving local remittances and for minimizing exchange loss incurred in paying for services procured locally,” added the Bishop.

“The financial contribution is a great show of solidarity and a visible expression of ownership of AACC by Uganda churches.”

The Uganda Joint Christian Council, together with her three members — the Church of Uganda, the Roman Catholic Church and the Uganda Orthodox Church – are hosting the AACC Jubilee Assembly.
