He said as Uganda Young Democrats, they believe that the reopening of the media houses should not come with several conditions attached onto it, this was the same case done on CBS which up to now has no license.

Earlier on while addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, the outgoing Minister of Internal Affairs, Hillary Onek said Monitor Publications Ltd must tighten its internal editorial and gate keeping processes, to ensure that stories that impact the national security are subjected to the most rigorous scrutiny and verification process before they are run.

Onek added that Monitor newspaper should only publish or air stories which are properly sourced, verified and factual. He also said, it has to always be objective, fair and balanced.

“These are issues of human rights and this has been a clear signal that President Museveni does not understand respecting human rights and has denied Ugandans a freedom of choice,” said Wasswa.

He further asserted: “Uganda should not stay to believe that the closure is mere a closure but an indication that we have no rights.”

The UYD Secretary General has also warned the IGP and the Executive Director of Uganda Communication Commission, Mr. Godfrey Mutabazi to take caution assuring that no one is above the law and can be “handled by the ICC.”
