He said the campaign against cooperation with the ICC was started by president Museveni at the inauguration ceremony of President Kenyatta. “This was extended to the IGAD meeting where Museveni alleged that there was a plot to detain Uhuru Kenyatta,” noted Ndifuna.

He further reminded the African Union that the ICC was formed to try individuals who have committed crimes of international concern and called upon the government of Kenya to prove that if tried in their own country, it would bring justice to the victims of the 2007 post election violence.

Ndifuna further noted with concern, the continued shield by the AU member states to Sudanese leader Omar AL Bashir against trial by ICC.

“The African Union should reconsider its decision on their position on the ICC indictments and cooperate by encouraging African states to respect their international obligations,” affirmed Ndifuna.

African Union last week condemned its selective prosecution methods, casting ICC for targeting Africa.

Uhuru is accused of fuelling crimes against humanity in the 2007 post-election violence.
