Alex Isabirye made only two changes to the side that lost to Masaka LC; returning Ali Kimera in goal while Bernard Agere replaced Savio Kabugo in defense.
The visitors however dominated a riveting first half with several attacks and pegged SCVU in their own half on several occasion but barely threatened.
SCVU’s first real chance came after the half hour mark. Bongole controlled well and let the ball into Razak Ewatu’s path, the midfielder’s low effort went direct into Richard Anyama’s hands.
Simba though were forced into an early substitution when Ivan Wava replaced the injured Muwanika Yasin and it is soon then that they were on the back foot.
Manko Kaweesa’s through ball was deflected into Bongole’s path, the forward sprinted with five yards and made no mistake as he blasted low past Anyama six minutes to the break.
It is only after the goal that SCVU found some breathing space and even found more comfort dominating the second period.
Lawrence Kasadha then should have doubled the lead in the 70th minute but his curled free kick rattled the post.
Defensive slip-ups then allowed SCVU attack more. Fred Agandu’s break and smart work on the right allowed Ewatu follow up with a shot, he would all but gaze on as the ball rolled wide.
Simba slowly showed some measure of control they had previously lacked in the second half. They however fancied themselves to level late on. Alex Witaba fired straight at Kimera before Ezekiel Katende too struck from distance.
But it is Kaweesa that should have had the final say in a cagey second half. Agandu again smartly dashed on the right, and a simple pass back fell to the unmarked Kaweesa who powered his shot low but only so narrow of goal.
That would be the final piece of action in the first leg as SCVU earned a vital lead prior to Saturday’s second leg in Bombo.
