Airtel Acquisition Of Warid Complete

With this Warid customers will join Airtel customers in Uganda and the combined entity will have 7.2 million customers and a market share of 39 percent.


“By uniting Warid and Airtel, we have created a dynamic player in the telecommunications industry that has the right strategy and management team in place to compete successfully in today’s marketplace,” he said.


Yarlagadda added: “We look forward to realizing the tremendous potential of the combined entity.”


As enterprises the world over look to bolster their strategies to keep pace in the connected world, this merged entity will provide the perfect blend of capability to address the evolving market.


Approximately 7.2 million subscribers can expect to realize substantial synergies and costs savings from the merger. A wider choice of services, offered through simple, affordable rate plans for unlimited talk, text and data.


This acquisition gives Airtel an enhanced network position that will create a path to greater coverage in key markets across the country with the additional potential upside for geographic expansion of the brand.


However, Yarlagadda noted that all Warid customers will retain their Warid number and continue to enjoy Warid Pesa services with access to all the services that Airtel offers like the widest 3G coverage, blackberry services and superior roaming services.


“The merger between the two companies has been rigorously planned and integration will begin immediately,” he added.


Bharti Airtel, a global telecommunications services provider with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, revealed on April 23, 2013 that it had entered into a definitive agreement to fully acquire Warid Telecom Uganda.
