Over 100 poachers in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Kanungu district on Sunday morning surrendered to the State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda.

They also handed over the equipment they were using, case which they requested should be put in a museum.
Aurelia Kyalimpa, the Community Conservation Warden in the park said that Uganda Wildlife Authority is to look into the welfare of the poachers to help find them alternative ways of life.
Kyalimpa says that there have been different projects run by organizations and individuals like Tina Katushabe to try to fight poaching in the national park and that the surrendering of the 100 was all thanks to their sensitization.
Minister Kiwanda welcomed the poachers, telling them it was good that they realized the importance of the tourism to the country.
He also urged them to go back and encourage their remaining colleagues to give up on the vice ,promising that government would help them in any way possible.
